8NXT Fairy

Alexa Bliss in the early NXT days

The first version of Alexa Bliss introduced to WWE fans came in NXT with the fairy character. Bliss had the blue highlights and played a face tapping into the sparkly side of her personality. Although it played into some of her favorite movies and TV characters, the gimmick missed the mark and struggled to connect with the audience.

Alexa was forced to reassess her career and make changes while still attending classes at the Performance Center. The realization was that a heel turn was needed. Bliss’ fairy gimmick only lasted a few months before it was completely retooled and a distant part of her past.

The Mixed Match Challenge concept from WWE saw male and female wrestlers teaming together in a tournament format. Braun Strowman and Alexa Bliss showed chemistry teaming up with their name of Team Little Big.

The massive monster and smaller heel united and advanced far into the tournament. Fans enjoyed the dynamic of an odd couple duo. WWE even teased potential romantic moments that never played out until years later. They’re also the stars of a fun episode of Ride Along.

Various injury issues forced WWE to find a new role for Alexa Bliss when she was unable to compete in the ring. The talk show segments have been a fun part of WWE television with the likes of Chris Jericho, Roddy Piper, and Christian having popular concepts.

A Moment of Bliss was the latest project by WWE to give Alexa a platform to remain on television and use her star power without getting physical. Bliss did a good job in the role and helped push forward various storylines while getting herself involved.

5Managing Blake And Murphy

The big heel turn for Alexa Bliss in NXT saw her becoming a manager for the tag team of Blake and Murphy. Both wrestlers showed potential, but they were lacking something in the tag division. Bliss was the missing piece that put them over the top to get over.

Blake and Murphy won the NXT Tag Team Championship and held onto them thanks to Alexa joining them to make all three performers an important act for the brand. Bliss gained experience finding her voice as a heel. The tag run ended faster than expected, but it was done to give Alexa some time on her own before the main roster call-up.

The 2016 brand split and draft saw Alexa Bliss as one of the NXT stars to get selected. Smackdown picked Bliss as a surprise since she wasn’t necessarily pushed as a top star in NXT. Alexa never even had a TakeOver match before moving up to the main roster.

Vince McMahon fell in love with Bliss’s work as a heel and had her win the Smackdown Women’s Championship from Becky Lynch a few months into the split. It wasn’t the original plan, but the character work of Alexa helped her breakout to the top of the women’s division.

3Aligning With The Fiend

WWE utilized the prior association between Braun Strowman and Alexa Bliss in Strowman’s feud with Bray Wyatt. The cinematic match saw Bliss referenced as Braun’s weakness and later saw her attacked by Wyatt’s portrayal of The Fiend.

Alexa eventually became enamored with the alter ego of Wyatt when Strowman turned against her. The slow burn saw Bliss becoming more and more like the Fiend. WWE’s draft in late 2020 saw the two finally uniting with Alexa joining Bray on Raw in both his Fiend segments and in the Firefly Fun House skits. Time will tell how well this works for Bliss in the long run.

2Teaming With Nikki Cross

Alexa Bliss has struggled in the face role for most of her career aside from one version. The unlikely pairing of Bliss and Nikki Cross became a tag team on the face side of things. Fans initially expected Alexa to be using Cross and turn on her when the opportunity presented itself.

WWE bailed on any chances of those plans when the team found great chemistry. Bliss was thriving as a face and enjoyed working with Cross at a time when WWE needed duos for the women’s division. Nikki and Alexa won the Women’s Tag Team Championship twice and had a longer run than expected for great success.

1Top Heel On Raw

Alexa Bliss on Raw

The move from Smackdown to Raw in the 2017 Superstar Shakeup saw Alexa Bliss growing even stronger. Bliss became an even more dominant heel in the women’s division by destroying Bayley in a feud for the Raw Women’s Championship in decisive fashion.

The momentum continued when Alexa won the rivalry against Sasha Banks to remain the top star. Bliss spent the better part of a year as the most pushed female talent and still had a top role when other stars like Nia Jax and Ronda Rousey were pushed. This version of Alexa found the most success in the bigger role in her WWE career.
