Last Friday’s SmackDown Live was this year’s season premiere following the WWE Draft which shook up the RAW and SmackDown rosters. We saw Lars Sullivan destroy Jeff Hardy, The New Day gave one last farewell and Roman Reigns and Jey Uso took their problems up a notch.

It was a great show that had a fair few surprises onscreen, Goldberg and Keith Lee tuned into the ThunderDome to watch Roman Reigns take on Braun Strowman for the Universal Title. Reigns debuted a new submission finishing manoeuvre and Buddy Murphy turned on Seth Rollins to align with the Mysterio family.

However, one of the biggest surprises was one that would take place backstage and one that people didn’t know about until after SmackDown would air. As reported by Ringside News and confirmed by several other prominent journalists in the field like Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp and Talksport’s Alex McCarthy, Becky Lynch was backstage for the show.

This news comes after the report from WrestlingNewsCo that Vince McMahon is eyeing up a return for Becky Lynch as early as January or February next year, which would be only a month or two after the former women’s champion is due to give birth. The report also suggested this would be in order for Lynch to rekindle her feud with Ronda Rousey and set-up a WrestleMania match between the two.

Unfortunately, as you can see, they’re unable to clarify what Becky Lynch was doing there as they don’t go into detail. However, for those people out there using this as evidence to support the unlikely WrestlingNewsCo rumour, I will say that she was almost certainly there to support her partner on his debut on the new show and see her friends, not to discuss a return so soon after giving birth.
