Zelina Vega’s release from WWE is garnering lots of interest, with many industry personalities offering their sympathy and pointing out the perceived unfairness. The 29-year-old star was given her marching orders on Friday evening, right after tweeting about supporting unionization. It’s believed that she had already been informed of her release when she posted the tweet and was looking to beat WWE to the punch.

Gabrielle Carteris, Beverly Hills 90210 actress and president of SAG-AFTRA (The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists), were among those to reach out to Zelina after the news got out. The aforementioned union represents over 160,000 individuals in the entertainment industry, which includes TV actors, recording artists, voice actors, journalists, and radio personalities.

“Hey @Zelina_VegaWWE Thanks for standing strong for labor solidarity. I support you,” Carteris tweeted. “Please email me PresidentCarteris@sagaftra.org.”

Former U.S presidential candidate and Democrat Andrew Yang has also given his two cents on the matter. Yang has been pretty vocal over WWE’s treatment of its stars and had vowed to push for legislation that will change how wrestlers are classified by Vince McMahon.

As things stand, WWE considers wrestlers independent contractors and don’t offer them insurance as a result, yet the company is in control of likenesses and now wants to control their out-of-work activity.

McMahon issued a mandate that restricts appearances on third-party platforms like Twitch and Cameo. Vega was among stars who took issue with the decree and subsequently set up an OnlyFans account.

A Warning To Others

Vega isn’t able to wrestle elsewhere at the moment as she’s under a 90-day non-compete clause but she has indicated she isn’t done with wrestling.

It’s been reported that her release was meant as a message to other wrestlers, with Vince unwilling to back down from his mandate.
